Children’s Talking Stick Workshop

Join us on Friday, August 12 from 1-2:30pm for a talking stick workshop. The process of creating a talking stick will allow children (ages 6+) to have fun crafting a tool that will have special significance in their lives. In this workshop, Zelda Hotaling will guide children to create their own unique talking stick using recycled, reclaimed and natural materials.

Together, they will learn about the Four Elements of a talking stick:

• Patience: To sit and listen for what it is you are being asked to do, even if just to listen.
• Endurance: To push through and listen with full attention, even if it feels hard.
• Courage: To open you up to actually listen to what others are saying to you rather than placing judgement or assuming you know what they are saying. To give you the courage to speak your truth into the space of the talking stick, without fear of judgement from others.
• Alertness: To be aware of your surroundings and how you react to the action of others people’s words.

When the talking sticks are complete, the group will have the opportunity to practice using them with the Four Elements. The workshop costs $25 per child.
